Environment History

Twenty miles to Delta Port Marina's north is the stately old cotton port of Mobile which was one of the few southern cities that were spared destruction in the Civil War.

Six miles to our west is the serene fishing village of Bayou la Batre where the shrimp boat scenes of Forest Gump were shot and where the latest Pirates of the Caribbean "Black Pearl" was built. The grand casinos of Biloxi are a few miles further west.

Ten miles to our south is Dauphin Island where the French set up their first capital of the Louisiana Territory in 1701 before later moving it to New Orleans. Fort Gains on Dauphin Island has guarded the entrance to Mobile Bay since 1821 but is now a museum.

To our east is Mobile Bay and a few miles further are the pristine snow white beaches and crystal clear water of Orange Beach and the Florida panhandle.

The muddy remains of the dread pirate Copeland's house can still be found at the mouth of the Fowl River where his treasure is rumored to be buried.
